Palomino Festival is a new idea concocted by Goldenvoice, who also produce the famous Coachella and Stagecoach Festivals. Some, if not most fans did not know what to expect, but most agreed with the sentiments of local South Pasadena resident Kelly Thorpe who said, “Going in I expected strong performances from the headliners, but everyone sounded great.” Part of the reason the crowd was so welcoming was the fact that the sun had gone down on a very hot afternoon. She played to a very loud and loyal fan base who knew the words to most of her songs and were not afraid to sing along. Artists included Orville Peck, Old Crow Medicine Show, Willie Nelson and Friends, and of course the headliner Kacey Musgraves.

She went home a winner at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards as well, snagging Best Cover Song with Harry Styles for their version of Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One.” Musgraves is currently out on her Oh, What a World: Tour II, with dates scheduled through September 28th in New Orleans.PASADENA-The inaugural Palomino Festival took place at the Brookside Golf Course on Saturday July 9, and by crowd reaction alone it was a resounding success. “Rainbow” is Musgraves’ current single from the acclaimed album Golden Hour, which won Album of the Year and Best Country Album at the Grammys last month. “Well the skies have finally opened, and the rain and wind stop blowin’ / And you’re stuck out in the same old storm again / Hold tight to your umbrella, but darlin’ I’m just tryin’ to tell ya / That you’ve always had a rainbow, hangin’ over your head,” she sang. Dressed in a gorgeous yellow gown and with Martin providing gentle piano backing, Musgraves’ delicate vocal sent goosebumps through the crowd, as her uplifting message about overcoming the storms of life slowly unfolded. With stars dancing all around the stage and Musgraves singing from atop an actual rainbow, the performance was a quiet moment of sparkling serenity.
